Meet Earth’s Newest Island, Forming In The Red Sea
by JP on Jan.28, 2012, under The Man Minute
I found this picture and article and thought I would share it wth you.
A new island has sprung up in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. The newest inhabitant of the Red Sea — a volcanic island — seems to have stopped smoking, and could stay, that is if it turns out to be mostly lava. If it’s ash or loose volcanic debris, then it will likely resist erosion and stick around. If not, the island may erode to below the sea surface unless new lava is added. Is this is the case, it will eventually become a great dive spot known as a “Hidden Reef”! (continue reading…)

We’re married: so what’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine, right? Maybe — not always — and certainly not with all things. Individual retirement accounts quickly come to mind; jewelry is another. And I’m willing to bet that most married people draw the line at their cars as well. Each of us, even in a marriage, has to have at least a few things that are just ours and nobody else’s. Just about everything else — the house, the mortgage, the credit cards, the furniture and, yes, the kids — fit easily and comfortably into the “ours” category. (continue reading…)

Another Bad Example of Professional Athletes Cowboys Receiver Arrested
by JP on Sep.05, 2011, under The Dallas Minute, The Sports Minute
Cowboy’s receiver Kevin Ogletree was arrested for outstanding traffic warrants after being stopped for speeding on Friday afternoon (Sept 2, 2011) in Coppell, TX.
The incident happened near the 400 block of N. MacArthur Blvd., according to a police report. After he was pulled over, a routine check of Ogletree’s record was conducted and it revealed that he had two outstanding traffic warrants from the Irving Police Department.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Coppell city jail, where he was released shortly thereafter. Yet again, this is another example of America’s athletes gone array. I realize it’s just traffic but come on, he can’t pay a couple of traffic tickets?
This makes me sick. This guy makes who knows how much money and he can’t pay a couple of traffic tickets? Another reason I have given up supporting professional teams and the networks that support them.

I’m not sure about you but I’m sitting on pins and needles over here waiting for President Obama’s upcoming speech about how he’s going to help the un-working people of America get back to work. This is EXCITING! Well, not really…
Here is what I’m expecting. Stimulus… Spend more money… Acts of God… blah blah blah, Jobs… Blah Blah Blah, Middle Class… Blah Blah Blah, Roads, Bridges and construction workers, Blah Blah Blah, infrastructure, blah, blah, blah and… We need to spend (or more like waste) more money to further head over the cliff. Is Obama Telling the Truth About The Rich Paying Their Fair Share?
by JP on Oct.01, 2011, under The Man Minute, The Political Minute
Nothing but the facts here. This comes from the wonderful Internal Revenue Service.
According to the IRS:
Those making more than $1 million pay 24% of income in taxes.
• Those making $200,000 to $300,000 pay 17.5%
• Those making $100,000 to $125,000 pay 9.9%
• Those making $50,000 to $60,000 pay 6.3%
• Those making $20,000 to $30,000 pay 2.5%
And how many millionaires pay no Taxes? There are 1,470 of them. They represent six-tenths of one percent of all those with million dollar incomes in the U.S. If we assume that they make an average income of $2 million a year each, taxing them at the same rate as other millionaires (24.4%) would yield $367 million, which would increase Treasury income tax revenues by 30 one-hundredths of one percent or one-third of one-tenth of one percent!
Overall, the IRS reports that the revenues from the income tax are sharply skewed toward taxes on the rich:
• The top 1% pays 39%
• The top 5% pays 60%
• The top 10% pays 72%
• The bottom half pays 3%
Come on President Obama, who do you think you are trying to fool?

The raid was meant to ensure that certain veiled threats directed to the Obama White House were not a prelude to some planned act of violence. The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve. He hadn’t been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away. It was just another day to him. He didn’t hate Christmas, just couldn’t find a reason to celebrate. He was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened and a homeless man stepped through.
